About ATC
Embraced by industry leaders
Formed in 1974 by Billy Woodman, ATC gained rapid recognition in the professional sound industry with the 12″ PA75-314 driver, celebrated for its superior power handling. The groundbreaking SM 75-150s soft dome midrange driver, introduced in 1976, transformed studio monitoring with its innovative design, ensuring uniform dispersion, wider bandwidth, and lower distortion. Recognized as the ultimate mid-range transducer, the latest SM 75-150s represents the pinnacle of drive unit technology, marked by exotic materials and precision tolerances.
The subsequent decade saw ATC's expansion into complete speaker systems and high-power PA drive units, embraced by industry leaders such as Pink Floyd and Supertramp. Research during this period led to the development of the first active system elements, featuring the EC23 Active Crossover with built-in phase correction. A collaboration with Danish Radio resulted in the industry-standard SCM50A and SCM100A – reliable and accurate active systems popular in professional and hi-fi applications today. ATC's commitment to precision monitors continued with the evolution of smaller speakers, from SCM7s to 10s and 20s, available in both active and passive versions, catering to a diverse customer base.
